With a home in the city of Chicago and a heart somewhere in the woods, Ryan Durling, Fryer Rose founder and lead designer, has the eye of an artist, the mind of an engineer and the hands of a skilled craftsman. Born and raised in Florida, the son of a home builder, Ryan grew up learning the skills he has fine tuned over his life. After serving in the Coast Guard for 8 years, Ryan moved to New York City, quickly met his wife, Annie, and changed his course. They moved to Chicago, where Annie was raised to be near family and start a new adventure.

As luck would have it, Annie's father, a renowned fine art photographer and master woodworker, had been waiting for a son-in-law just like Ryan. Following in the footsteps of his father, father-in-law and Annie's beloved paternal grandfather, Ryan took quickly to the wood shop located in the quiet woods of rural Illinois. Carving, crafting, designing, building. Ryan found a home and peace in this world. Over the years he refined his skills and learned quickly that this was more than a hobby.

After building a custom table for their first home together (The California), Ryan started to get requests from family and friends for custom pieces, and Freyer Rose was born.

Named for his dear paternal grandmother (Freyer) and Annie's family name (Rose), Freyer Rose represents all that Ryan and Annie hold most dear: family, friends, art, home, and the beautiful things that happen as we gather around a table to share a meal, conversation, a glass of whiskey (for Ryan) or wine (for Annie). The pieces crafted by Freyer Rose are meant to be lived with and loved as a part of what helps create your own family memories.

Thank you for welcoming us into your home. We can't wait to build with you.
